Countries covered: United Kindom

Topics: Labour, Migration and Income Distribution

The UK has experienced unprecedented flows of migration from the New Member States since 2004. We survey the available evidence on: the size of these flows (gross and net), the characteristics of the migrants, and the impact that they have had on the UK labour market and on UK public services at a local level. We also show that recent migrants from the NMS are employed overwhelmingly in occupations which are less-skilled, and lowerpaid, then equivalently education UK-born workers.
