2010 Global Development Awards and Medals Competition
The
Global Development Awards and Medals Competition is an innovative award
scheme launched by the Global Development Network (GDN), with generous
support from the Ministry of Finance, Government of Japan and other
donors. Since its inception in 2000, GDN has awarded roughly US$ 2
million in research and travel grants to finalists and winners. Winners
are chosen by an eminent jury at GDN’s Annual Global Development
Conference, with an audience of over 500 practitioners in the field of
development to whom the finalists present. This year, the 12th Annual
Global Development Conference will be held in Bogotá, Columbia
in
January 2011.

Europe's World: Summer issue out now
Europe’s World is an
independent policy journal launched by some 50 leading European think
tanks. Published three times yearly, it is the only pan-European
publication that offers policymakers and opinion-formers across Europe
a platform for presenting ideas and forging consensus on key issues. It
also reflects the diversity of national policy debates in EU states,
with particular attention being paid to newcomer and candidate
countries. The wiiw is member of the advisory board of Europe’s World.

Olga Radzyner Award 2010
The
Oesterreichische Nationalbank has established an award to commemorate
Olga Radzyner, former head of the Foreign Research Division, who died
in a tragic accident in August 1999. The award is bestowed on young
economists for excellent research focused on topics of European
economic integration and is conferred annually at the OeNB’s Conference
on European Economic Integration. Four applicants are eligible to
receive a single payment of EUR 3,000 each from an annual total of EUR
12,000.

MICRO-DYN Summer School 2010
The
MICRO-DYN consortium organizes a second summer school dedicated to
firm-level analysis of innovation, competitiveness and employment. It
will take place September 06–10, 2010 at the JUDGE Business School
Cambridge, United Kingdom. There will be half-day sessions devoted to
methodological training in panel data analysis and half-day sessions
dedicated to the presentation of research results both by young
researchers and project participants to the research areas of
MICRO-DYN.

Call for Papers: 2nd OEI/APB Summer Academy on Central and
Eastern Europe
The
OEI/APB Summer Academies on Central and Eastern Europe aim to bring
together researchers in a workshop atmosphere. Each participant
presents an ongoing or recently concluded research project and comments
on another one, to be followed by a general discussion. In addition,
three keynote lectures are presented. This format should be especially
interesting for PhD students and post-docs. More senior researchers,
however, are also welcome to participate. In order to ensure lively
discussions, the number of participants is limited to 15. The workshop
language is English.

The
first Joint PhD Symposium on South East Europe aims to facilitate an
exchange of knowledge and ideas by brining together young scholars
working on topics related to South East Europe. The Symposium is
intended to help graduate-level research students to overcome the
academic isolation associated with PhD research, to share their ideas
with a wider audience, and to establish collaborative links across
disciplines.

the
papers from the wiiw GDN SEE
project (4th phase) are now ready for download. The research areas
were: inequality, migration, and fiscal systems. This project is a
result of the cooperation between the Vienna Institute for
International Economic Studies (wiiw) and the Global Development
Network (GDN) – with the support of the Austrian National Bank (OENB)
and the Austrian Ministry of Finance (BMF).

IJF Call for Papers
Institute
of Public Finance (IJF) announces an international conference on:
Finance and Growth in Central and Eastern Europe (April 29-30, 2010,
Zagreb, Croatia). The conference aims to bring together researchers
working in the area of finance and growth with special focus on the
economies of Central and Eastern Europe and their economic
circumstances in the post-transition period and the current global
financial crisis.
