	news and events complete reports economic data SEE announcements links send feedback -home-		Mar 2010 Call for Papers: 2nd OEI/APB Summer Academy on Central and Eastern Europe The OEI/APB Summer Academies on Central and Eastern Europe aim to bring together researchers in a workshop atmosphere. Each participant presents an ongoing or recently concluded research project and comments on another one, to be followed by a general discussion. In addition, three keynote lectures are presented. This format should be especially interesting for PhD students and post-docs. More senior researchers, however, are also welcome to participate. In order to ensure lively discussions, the number of participants is limited to 15. The workshop language is English. For more details please follow the OEI link. Dec 2009 Call for Papers: Joint PhD Symposium on South East Europe The first Joint PhD Symposium on South East Europe aims to facilitate an exchange of knowledge and ideas by brining together young scholars working on topics related to South East Europe. The Symposium is intended to help graduate-level research students to overcome the academic isolation associated with PhD research, to share their ideas with a wider audience, and to establish collaborative links across disciplines. For more details please follow the LSE link. Dec 2009 wiiw GDN SEE - 4th phase - papers downloadable now the papers from the wiiw GDN SEE project (4th phase) are now ready for download. The research areas were: inequality, migration, and fiscal systems. This project is a result of the cooperation between the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw) and the Global Development Network (GDN) – with the support of the Austrian National Bank (OENB) and the Austrian Ministry of Finance (BMF). Dec 2009 IJF Call for Papers Institute of Public Finance (IJF) announces an international conference on: Finance and Growth in Central and Eastern Europe (April 29-30, 2010, Zagreb, Croatia). The conference aims to bring together researchers working in the area of finance and growth with special focus on the economies of Central and Eastern Europe and their economic circumstances in the post-transition period and the current global financial crisis. Nov 2009 wiiw GDN-SEE Announces CIS Research Competition 2009 The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw), with financial support from The World Bank, the Austrian Ministry of Finance and the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (Austrian Central Bank), announces a CIS region research competition within the framework of the wiiw Global Development Network Southeast Europe (wiiw GDN-SEE) research project. Oct 2009 LSEE - Call for Research Projects LSEE, LSE's South East Europe Research Unit, and L'Institut français des relations internationales invite researchers with a recognized interest in contemporary South East Europe to submit an application for funding in order to carry out a project on the following theme: "The Management of Public Services in South East Europe: Implications for quality, reliability, efficiency and equity". Sep 2009 Kokkalis Fellowship The Kokkalis Program strives to provide promising leaders and current public executives from Southeastern and East-Central Europe with scholarships to pursue master's degree studies at the Harvard Kennedy School. Sep 2009 2009 Global Development Awards and Medals Competition Deadline Extended Extended Deadline: 10 September 2009 – Projects; 14 October 2009 – Research Proposals/Papers The Global Development Network invites researchers and organizations from developing and transition countries to submit new research proposals, completed research papers and proposals for scaling-up development projects. This year’s competition themes seek to explore pressing global issues – globalization, regulation and development; international migration; and regional integration. More information: http://www.gdnet.org/~2009awards Jul 2009 GDN/CERGE-EI Regional Research Competition X CERGE-EI is currently accepting proposals for the 10th GDN Regional Research Competition (RRC X). Projects funded will run throughout calendar year 2010. RRC X is open to researchers in any GDN East European network country in all fields of advanced social sciences research. Grants will fund scientific research based on sound analysis for up to a maximum of USD 20,000. Proposals must be postmarked by 15 July 2009 in order to be considered. Jun 2009 Europe's World: Summer issue out now Europe’s World is an independent policy journal launched by some 50 leading European think tanks. Published three times yearly, it is the only pan-European publication that offers policymakers and opinion-formers across Europe a platform for presenting ideas and forging consensus on key issues. It also reflects the diversity of national policy debates in EU states, with particular attention being paid to newcomer and candidate countries. The wiiw is member of the advisory board of Europe’s World. Jun 2009 Olga Radzyner Award 2009 The Oesterreichische Nationalbank has established an award to commemorate Olga Radzyner, former head of the Foreign Research Division, who died in a tragic accident in August 1999. The award is bestowed on young economists for excellent research focused on topics of European economic integration and is conferred annually at the OeNB’s Conference on European Economic Integration. Four applicants are eligible to receive a single payment of EUR 3,000 each from an annual total of EUR 12,000. For more details please follow the OENB link.
