Coverage: General demographic data, GDP/GNP, production, investment,
consumption, employment, wages and prices, financial data, national budgets,
foreign trade, balance of payments, external debt and standard of living.

Currency: Where possible, series go back to the 1960s. Series on
the "new countries" (Croatia, the Czech Republic, Macedonia, Slovakia,
Slovenia, Russia, Ukraine and Yugoslavia) date from 1989. All time series
are updated as soon as new data are released.

Sources: The national statistical offices and national banks of
the respective countries; international organizations; scholarly publications;
and approximately 350 daily newspapers and journals appearing in the countries
covered. Many of the most useful series are further derived through the
independent calculations, adjustments, estimates and projections of WIIW
analysts and are not available from any other source.

Publications: The Vienna Institute's independent research, estimates
and forecasts are published in a variety of forms, available as part of
the WIIW Service Package,
or for sale individually to the public by special order. Texts, footnotes
and explanations on the time series are in English.

Access: Host of the WIIW Annual Database Eastern Europe is the Computing
Centre for Economics and Social Sciences (Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftliches
Rechenzentrum, WSR) in Vienna which provides online
access over the Internet for external users and institutions.

The WIIW Annual Database Eastern Europe is also available online via Thomson
Financial (Datastream) and Wefa.

Statistical Handbook: A compendium of the WIIW Annual Database Eastern
Europe is published annually as a handbook (see WIIW
Handbook of Statistics).
